FAQs

What information do I need for my initial phone call?

Upon your initial phone call our staff will ask for basic demographic information as well as your insurance information and your child’s social security number. This will help make the verification of insurance a quicker process.

Can I drop off my child/adolescent for their sessions?
No! Most treatment approaches at Alta involve parents/caregivers as well. This is because the real change happens when utilizing and practicing the skills learned outside of sessions. Parents/caregivers aren’t part of every session, but usually are asked to attend part of the sessions.
What can I expect from treatment?
Sessions are typically held every two weeks for one hour but can occur at a higher frequency if needed. For most childhood conditions, behavioral and cognitive therapy interventions are utilized, although other specialized treatment may apply. Interventions may include role playing, therapeutic games and activities, family discussion, and practicing of skills taught in session. In addition, homework activities may be involved in order to practice and reinforce learned skills.
Does Alta provide group counseling?
Yes! A variety of group interventions are provided for different ages and different areas of concern, at several of our locations.
How long will treatment last?
This can vary widely depending on the age of the child/youth, complexity of the area of concern, and compliance with treatment recommendations. A treatment episode could be as short as 2-3 sessions, or much longer, but average is 6-10 sessions.
What is the availability of appointments?
We try to accommodate most appointment times that can meet the needs of families. Our offices are open at least two evenings per week, but these are also the busiest times.
What are some areas that Alta specializes in treatment?
Alta staff that can treat all children, adolescent and young adult’s behavioral health conditions as well as help with other family issues such as divorce and grief. Also see our website for our “Specialized Programs” section that focuses beyond our general mental health services.
Does Alta offer telehealth services?
Yes, Alta can provide telehealth services for most treatment approaches, but you will have to confer with your counselor or prescriber if telehealth is the most appropriate avenue for treatment of your child’s condition.
How long will it take to get an intake scheduled?

We can usually schedule a same day intake appointment if your schedule allows.
